Eberhard & Co. Chronographe 1887: vintage inspiration

Inspired by historical models produced by Eberhard & Co. in the 1930s and 1940s, the new 1887 Chronographe is available with a hand-wound mechanical movement (in a limited edition of 250 pieces) or automatic.

Presented in 2019, the '1887' collection, with which Eberhard & Co. pays tribute to the year of its foundation, is enriched with two new chronographs inspired by historical models from the 1930s and 1940s, preserved at the company museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

Available manual version (such as the silvered or black dial versions called "Édition Limitée', produced in only 250 pieces), or automatic, put the emblematic Eberhard shield centre stage. The movements used are the calibre EB 280 (manual winding) or EB 380 (automatic), both based on the AMT 5100: they are personalised with the company logo.

The main difference between limited edition and non resides not only in the use of a hand-wound calibre for the former and an automatic one for the latter, but also in the style of the indices, barred in the former case and with Arabic numerals in the latter (except for the blue dial version).

The same gauges (28,800 vibrations per hour, 63-hour power reserve) are equipped with a column wheel and flyback function, and are decorated with perlage and côtes de Genève motifs. The screws are blued. They can be observed through the sapphire crystal porthole on the back, which is closed by four screws.

Eberhard 1887 Chronographe: echoes from the past

The design of the new 1887 chronographs by Eberhard & Co. reminds us of an exquisitely classic style.

Another customisation of the movement concerns the creation of a special lever allowing the chronograph reset button to be displaced coaxially to the crown. The style of the dial is refined, featuring a spiral tachymeter scale (in the centre) and telemetric scale along the periphery.

Available dial colours are white or black, to which is added a automatic model without central spiral tachymetric scale with blue guilloché-engraved squares. In this case, the indices are in Roman numerals and geometrical, rather than stylised Arabic numerals.

The dial itself is protected by a domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The case is made of steel with a diameter of 41.5 mm and is water-resistant to 5 atmospheres. The watches are completed by an alligator strap with a personalised steel pin buckle.

Prices6,960 euro ("Édition Limitée'); EUR 5,900 ('Automatique').
