Distinctive and recognisable design is one of the hallmarks of Cyrus Genèvehighlighted by the cushion-shaped Klpecys case, massive lugs, double crown and skeleton dials. However, the brand's great strength also lies in the technical mastery of Jean-François Mojon, founder of Chronode and renowned contemporary watchmaker. Models such as the Klepcys Vertical Tourbillon and the Klepcys Dice testify to Cyrus' innovation and ability to reinvent the rules of watchmaking.
Three years ago, Cyrus introduced the GMT complication with an automatic manufacture movement, presenting original solutions. The second time zone display in the centre of the dial shows a retrograde hand, unusual for this complication. Which Cyrus succeeds in enhancing in the transparency of the multi-layered dial, in an interplay of full and empty spaces and finishes that reveal the parts of the movement underneath.
If the design is unconventional, the reading is instead intuitive and the operation simple. The crown at 3 winds the movement and adjusts the central hands, which rotate together with the GMT hand; the crown at 9, on the other hand, is fixed and features a coaxial pusher that advances the local time sphere with each press, while the home time and minute hands remain stationary.
The latest versions of the Klepcys GMT Retrograde are distinguished by their bold use of colour, such as in the Ocean Blue layout. The technique Cyrus uses to reproduce the colour is that of deposition of atomic layers under vacuum that create a uniform coating, highlighting the upper bridge of the palm-shaped movement. The automatic CYR708 calibre beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, with a power reserve of 55 hours. The skeletonised oscillating weight is also treated in Ocean Blue.
The case, in grade 5 titanium, is the brand's first 42 mm and increases water resistance from 3 to 10 atmospheres. The integrated bracelet in satin-finished titanium with polished hexagonal central links is a debut for Cyrus. There remains the option of a grey cordura strap with stitching to match the blue of the dial. These are two versions limited to 38 pieces each: €22,650 with strap, €24,000 with bracelet.
