Garmin's new high-end Marq Carbon series smartwatches are constructed with a carbon fibre case and bezel, the result of a meticulous manufacturing process.
Garmin has chosen carbon as the material for its top-of-the-range, durable and lightweight smartwatches, guaranteeing maximum precision and accuracy of GPS signal transmission. The Mar seriesq Carbon consists of three specimens, each inspired by a specific passion: Athlete, Golfer and Commander. 46 mm case and carbon fibre bezel, Amoled touchscreen display, sapphire crystal and a battery life of up to 16 days are the common characteristics.
In the world of classical watchmaking, we have long been accustomed to carbon cases, but in the world of smartwatches, the challenge is different. While it is a perfect material in terms of weight, rigidity and flexibility, it poses a difficulty for GPS devices because it often blocks, distorts or absorbs electromagnetic signals, which are essential for reliable signal transmission 20,000 km away. The research and development department of the Garmin team, on the other hand, has made it possible to overcome this limitation, guaranteeing the usual precise and secure connection even in the most remote and inaccessible places, that the brand has been guaranteeing since 1989.
The carbon challenge: Garmin's sophisticated production process
Athlete, Golfer and Commander: three different specific functionalities for the smartwatches in the Marq Carbon series.
It takes over 50 days and 60 production steps before the watch case is made. This lengthy process creates unique patterns on the surfaces, which are polished and engraved for the final result.
Marq Athlete Carbon Edition represents the ultimate multisport watch with advanced training metrics. In addition to monitoring daily activity, it supports every passion with pre-loaded sports profiles for trail running, swimming, hiking, rowing, indoor climbing and more. Marq Golfer, on the other hand, is the tool watch dedicated to all lovers of the green, with the courses of over 43,000 courses pre-loaded and a very special virtual assistant. The Virtual Caddie function provides players with suggestions on which iron to use based on wind, altitude and their swing data.
Marq Carbon: a precise, secure and accurate connection even in the most remote and inaccessible places
Garmin's QuickFit straps adapt to various styles without the need for any release tools.
Marq Commander Carbon has a screen that can be read even with night vision goggles. Stealth mode keeps the watch operational, but stops storing and sharing GPS position, disabling wireless connectivity. For in-flight operations, there is a dedicated package with direct-to functions to navigate to a position, waypoint or nearby airport. All are equipped with a strap with QuickFit attachment mechanism.
Prices: Marq Athlete Carbon, 2,950 euro; Marq Golfer Carbon, 3,100 euro; Marq Commander Carbon, 3,200 euro.
