Audemars Piguet launches a new version of the Royal Oak Double Skeleton Balance, which combines an elegant black ceramic case with a dial that is exposed to the movement. For the first time, the Royal Oak Double Skeleton Balance has been made with a case (41 mm in diameter) and bracelet in black ceramic, both meticulously hand-finished with alternating polished and satin-finished surfaces. The black ceramic provides an elegant backdrop for the reinterpretation of the black rhodium-plated skeleton dial and the rose gold-coloured double balance mechanism, visible on both sides of the watch. This patented innovation, presented by Audemars Piguet in 2016, improves the precision and stability of the watch. The system oscillates in perfect synchrony, incorporating two balances and two springs assembled on the same axis. This self-regulating organ is echoed by the pink gold applied to the hour markers and luminescent hands, as well as the 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight visible on the caseback side. On the latter, made of titanium, is the engraving "Royal Oak Double Balancier", referring to the complex mechanism pulsating inside the watch. In addition, the skeletonised bridges reveal part of the rhodium-coloured gear train on both sides of the watch. Skeletonisation, a speciality of Audemars Piguet since the 1930s, is a true art that balances aesthetics and function. The movement used is the calibre 3132 (diameter 26.59 mm, thickness 5.57 mm, 245 components, 38 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour, power reserve of at least 45 hours), mechanical with automatic winding. The new Royal Oak Double Balance Skeleton will only be available in Audemars Piguet boutiques.
