The legendary watch of Guido Nicheli, the 'cumenda' of The Boys of 3rd C and Christmas Vacation, under the hammer of Antiquorum.
A piece of Italian cinema history is currently up for auction: the personal Rolex Datejust of Guido Nicheli, the unforgettable star of cult films, is being offered in the Antiquorum online auction until 17 April. The watch of Commendator Zampetti and Donatone Braghetti accompanied the actor throughout his film career, becoming a symbol of the Milanese yuppie era. The line "Ivana, make the eye dance on the tic" in Christmas Vacation made this Rolex a cult object for fans of 1980s cinema.
In detail, it is an elegant Datejust Reference 6827, a model combining stainless steel and yellow gold with a distinctive knurled bezel. The watch has a small case by today's standards, measuring only 31 mm in diameter. Manufactured around 1977, it is equipped with a Rolex-manufactured 2030 calibre automatic mechanism. The champagne dial is complemented by 18-carat gold hour markers and hands.
A detail that makes this watch even more personal is the presence of the initials 'G.N.' (Guido Nicheli) engraved on the clasp of the classic Oyster bracelet. The watch is accompanied by a declaration of originality drawn up by the actor's family, confirming its ownership and use by Nicheli.
Guido Nicheli, alias the 'Dogui', has starred in many films and TV series
The Rolex that belonged to the Lombard actor was auctioned by Antiquorum.
Born in Bergamo on 24 July 1934, Guido Nicheli approached show business in the 1960s when, as a liquor representative, he came into contact with Milanese nightlife and in particular that revolving around the famous Derby Club.
Here he met personalities such as Stefano Vanzina, Teo Teocoli and Renato Pozzetto, who nicknamed him 'Dogui', an anagram of his name. His destiny changed when, during a weekend in Porto Ercole, he accidentally met director Steno who offered him a role in the film 'The Master and the Worker' alongside Renato Pozzetto.
From that moment on, Nicheli became the cinematic embodiment of the Lombard entrepreneur of the economic boom era: shameless, self-confident and a lover of ostentatious luxury. The consecration came with Vacanze di Natale by the Vanzina brothers (Steno's sons) and with cult jokes like 'Alboreto is nothing'.
The Rolex of 'Dogui' was offered at auction by Antiquorum with an initial estimate of between €2,000 and €4,000, but has already reached the remarkable sum of €6,000. To bid, one can register for the online auction on the website of Antiquorum. There is time until 17 April.
