In particular, we are talking about the first and only Rolex Deep Sea Special that made the first dive attached to Auguste Piccard's Trieste bathyscaphe in 1953. The watch is in perfect condition in terms of case, movement and bracelet. In addition, it is watch N°1, the very watch that reached a depth of 3,150 metres in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea on 30 September 1953 and that provided the basis for Rolex Deep Sea Special N°3, which in turn reached a depth of 10,908 metres (again thanks to the bathyscaphe Trieste) in the Mariana Trench on 23 January 1960 and which is currently on display at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. The watch will be auctioned by Christie's as part of its Rare Watches Auction on 8 November at the Four Seasons Bergues Hotel in Geneva. "The fact that a watch as coveted as this prototype, the Rolex Deep Special Number 1, becomes available is a dream come true for many watch enthusiasts, Rolex fans and connoisseurs around the world. This watch is the definitive embodiment of the Oyster case design that has defined Rolex watches and the brand ever since," said Rémi Guillemin, Head of Watches at Christie's Geneva.
