Twenty-five years after the launch of the Datograph, A. Lange & Söhne presents a new, multi-complicated version, named Perpetual Tourbillon Honeygold 'Lumen', limited edition of 50 pieces.
Only 50 examples of this variant of the Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon by A. Lange & Söhne, launched in 2016 and now presented for the first time in 18-carat honey-coloured gold, an exclusive Lange material, and in a Lumen version. The sophisticated timepiece, which combines a flyback chronograph with 'jumping minutes exactly' counter, perpetual calendar and tourbillon with stop secondsreveals its fascinating aesthetics even in the dark.
This is thanks to the semi-transparent dial and the luminescent coating that makes the indications and functions shine. The watch was presented at Watches and Wonders, event still being held in Geneva.
Flyback chronograph, perpetual calendar and tourbillon
The Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon Honeygold 'Lumen' from A. Lange & Söhne is a concentrate of technology and top-quality finishing.
Of particular note is the high accuracy of the moon phase display, such that a day correction is only required after 122.6 years. With the quick correction button at 10 o'clock, then, all calendar indications can be advanced by one day. The three correctors on the side of the case allow for separate adjustment of the moon phase, day, month and leap year.
The indications on the dial are subdivided as follows: chrono minutes, month and leap cycle at 3 o'clock; moon phases at 6 o'clock; continuous seconds, day and day/night indication at 9 o'clock; large double date window at 12 o'clock; chrono seconds at centre; tachymeter scale on flange.
A particular attraction is the large luminescent date, which allows the date change at midnight to be observed in detail. By turning the watch, one can instead admire its mechanics, based on the new hand-wound L952.4 manufacture calibre (18,000 vib/h, hand-decorated and hand-mounted; 57 jewels, one of which has a diamond pivot cover and five screwed gold bezels; calibre set with micrometric precision in five positions; plates and bridges in natural nickel silver), with a 50-hour power reserve. The dimensions of the watch remain unchanged: 41.5 mm in diameter by 14.6 mm thick.
