Grand Seiko presents two new models inspired by two of Japan's 24 seasonal phases, the so-called 'sekki'.
Grand Seiko launches a new interpretation of Heritage models 62GS Rikka and Shūbun, with a 40 mm case and bracelet made of the brand's exclusive proprietary alloy, Ever-Brilliant steel. These new watches are a perfect fusion of the iconic design of the 62GS (the first Grand Seiko watch with a mechanical self-winding movement, introduced in 1967) and the innovative Ever-Brilliant technology.
The two models are equipped with the Hi-Beat 36000 calibre 9S85, a high-frequency automatic mechanical movement (36,000 vibrations per hour) which guarantees a daily accuracy of between +5 and -3 seconds. The power reserve is 55 hours. The movement is visible from the back side, thanks to the adoption of a sapphire crystal porthole.
As mentioned above, the 40 mm case and bracelet are made of exclusive Ever-Brilliant steel, a proprietary alloy offering greater corrosion resistance and one superior brilliance compared to traditional steel. The box-type sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment and water resistance to 10 atmospheres complete the technical specifications.
Grand Seiko: the representation of the seasons on the dials
The new Heritage 62GS Rikka and Shūbun are two original interpretations of the change of seasons.
The Heritage 62GS Rikka SBGH351 captures the essence of the transition from spring to summer with a bright green dial evoking the leaves carried by the wind over the earth. The steel hour markers and hands create a nice contrast with the dial background. At 3 o'clock is the date window.
The autumnal equinox, on the other hand, is celebrated in the Heritage 62GS Shūbun SBGH353 model through a deep blue which recalls the sky and clouds illuminated by the moon. The golden details of the logo and the seconds hand symbolise the moonlight.
The processing of Ever-Brilliant steel required a complete overhaul of production processes, including the famous Zaratsu polishing. The result is a finish that enhances the flat surfaces and sharp angles typical of the 62GS collection's design, creating eye-catching plays of light.
