Louis Vuitton and artist Takashi Murakami celebrate the 20th anniversary of their partnership with the Louis Vuitton x Murakami collection. And with two special trams on the streets of Milan.
Twenty years after the first collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami, the French Maison and the Japanese artist present the new Louis Vuitton × Murakami collection. This is a celebratory re-edition, enriching and reworking the original collection. The project consists of over 200 unreleased creations, is the portrait of a long-lasting creative bond, the result of a shared artistic vision.
Louis Vuitton × Murakami combines the House's inexhaustible dedication to creativity, innovation and savoir-faire with the artist's imaginative and colourful universe. Born in Tokyo in 1962, Murakami has long been internationally acclaimed for his ability to combine traditional Japanese art, science fiction, anime and quirky kawaii characters. In this new collection, the works created by the artist for the collaboration established with the then creative director of the Marc Jacobs fashion house, are reproposed in a wide assortment of Louis Vuitton's most iconic creations. Namely, city bags, silk scarves, sunglasses, jewellery, shoes and fragrances.
On a tram through Milan with Louis Vuitton
Until 28 January, two trams branded by the French Maison celebrate the partnership with Takashi Murakami. Here's how to book.
The first chapter of the Louis Vuitton × Murakami collection was unveiled on 3 January. A second chapter will be launched in March and will focus on the motif Cherry Blossom. The third chapter will be presented mid-year. Moreover, to celebrate this new collection, until 28 January the streets of Milan are coloured with the kaleidoscopic Monogram Multicolour. In particular, Two historic trams from the 1920s were made available by the public transport company ATM and are the protagonists of an atmospheric event involving the heart of the city. Visitors, by contacting Louis Vuitton's customer service, can be invited to experience an immersive adventure on board the two trams, which follow customised itineraries through the streets of central Milan.
The first tram is a travelling cinema: a truly immersive experience, starting with the intense shade of blue (typical of many of Murakami's works), which lines the interior of the carriage. Inside is recreated the atmosphere of a cinema in which videos and images representative of the imaginative universe created by the artist are projected for the Maison. The second tram is a literary café, offering visitors an immersive experience, within an environment enlivened by a bright shade of pink. It is a unique opportunity to experience Japanese culture and tradition in a dynamic environment, among the city's most iconic streets and places.
The appointment for the two trips, which can be booked via the Maison's website at this linkis in two of Milan's symbolic squares, Piazza Castello and Piazza Fontana. To complete the experience, another landmark of this Milanese celebratory journey is the Louis Vuitton shop located in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
