Thirty years after his death, TAG Heuer pays tribute to Ayrton Senna with a limited edition version of the Carrera Tourbillon Extreme Sport chronograph.
Just like a Formula 1 car, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Senna has a high-performance 'engine' - thanks to the tourbillon, a 'body' made of the latest materials and an aggressive, unmistakable look. The specifications are the same as for the Carrera Extreme Sport Chronograph Tourbillon. That is, a 44 mm grade 2 titanium case with a mixed brushed/sandblasted finish, a carbon bezel with a tachymeter scale printed in white and Senna's name next to the logo with the double S, reminiscent of a chicane, in yellow.
A chequered decoration inspired by the race director's flag can be glimpsed through the skeleton dial, while the green and blue flange features indices with SuperLuminova inserts. 9 o'clock the Senna logo lacquered in yellow is the background for the chronograph hour counter, at 3 o'clock is the chronograph minute counter (both with yellow hand) and at 6 o'clock is the tourbillon cage.
The IWC-manufactured TH20-09 calibre with 65-hour power reserve features a column wheel, carbon and titanium tourbillon cage and skeletonised oscillating mass. The transparent back is decorated with an engraving depicting Ayrton's intense gaze immortalised in a famous photo.
TAG Heuer and Formula 1
The collaboration between TAG Heuer and Senna began in 1988.
