Doxa presents the Sub 300T Sharkhunter Clive Cussler, produced in a limited edition of 93 pieces, as many as the American writer would have turned this year.
After the model presented last year, Doxa returns to dedicate a watch to American adventure novelist Clive Cussler. Born in 1931 in Illinois, Cussler would have been 93 years old this year. It is for this reason that the new Sub 300T Sharkhunter Clive Cussler is produced in a limited edition of 93 pieces. Cussler's novels have played an important role in making the name Doxa known throughout the world. The famous orange dial, in fact, was very important in helping Dirk Pitt (the hero of many of his books), enabling him to tell the time accurately during his adventurous missions.
The watch uses a 42.5 x 44.5 mm stainless steel case with an aged patina, guaranteed water-resistant to 30 atmospheres. A distinctive feature of this new special series is the black Sharkhunter dial with SuperLuminova luminescent hands and indices. On the same dial (protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal), then appears the compass rose, indicating the four cardinal points.
The compass rose was much more than a navigational tool for Clive Cussler. Indeed, it embodied the very spirit of exploration and adventure, a symbol where each direction indicated a new possibility and a mystery waiting to be revealed. Around the dial, there is a unidirectional rotating bezel, equipped with a dual display, that of the dive time in minutes, and that of the depth expressed in feet to return to the surface without decompression stops.
Doxa Sub 300T Sharkhunter Clive Cussler: limited and numbered edition
The progressive number of the limited series is engraved between the lugs.
He is also a prolific writer (he has published more than 85 books, selling over 100 million copies), Cussler was also known for his passion for sea wrecks. He participated in the expeditions of the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA), the non-profit organisation he founded in 1979.
And so, just like the model that preceded it or last year, also this new special edition of Doxa's Sub 300T has the names of wrecks and other historical artefacts discovered or explored by NUMA engraved on the back.
The watch is animated by the Sellita Calibre SW200-1 (28,800 vibrations per hour, 38-hour power reserve), mechanical with automatic winding. The crown is screwed down and the presence of the helium valve should be noted. Fastening it to the wrist is the steel bracelet with 'grain of rice' links. An additional black strap made of FKM rubber is also supplied. In both cases, the clasp is of the folding type. Finally, note the inscription on the side of the bezel 'In honour of Clive Cussler', to further emphasise the dedication to the American writer. Finally, it only remains to add that part of the sales of the new Doxa Sub 300T Clive Cussler will be donated to NUMA.
