Symbol of wealth and magnificence of the Most Serene Republic of Venice, Venetian craftsmanship has ancient roots, dating back to the Byzantine period, when the lagoon city became a centre of refined artistic production. Even back then, skilled artisans created extraordinary works using techniques handed down from generation to generation, as evidenced by the golden details in St Mark's Basilica. This mastery in the use of gold concerned not only churches and palaces, but also artefacts, that emphasised the power and greatness of the Republic.

The new Nereid Aureus of Venezianicoa diver model with a 42 mm steel case, pays homage to this historic tradition by using a special dial with a 24-carat gold finish.  In particular, the use of this finish is a emotional reminder of the golden interior walls of St Mark's Basilica in Venice, covered with 9th and 13th century mosaics. These mosaics are made of coloured and gilded glass tesserae, depicting biblical scenes, saints and geometric decorations, and cover over 8,000 square metres.

Venetian Nereid Aureo: Homage to Venice

The dial of the Nereide Aureo by Venezianico features a special 24-carat gold finish.

This precious metal, whose manufacture has made Venice famous and requires special craftsmanship, is presented on the dials of the Nereid Aureus with a beautiful rippled finish. Each quadrant is therefore subjected to a tumbling process to obtain a surface with deliberate imperfections, and then move on to a galvanic treatment, where it is immersed in an electrolyte solution containing pure gold particles.

The following application of electric current allows the particles to deposit evenly on the surface of the disc, by creating a durable and shiny gold layer that, when coated with transparent protective varnish, is protected from scratches, oxidation and other damage, thus ensuring superior durability and resistance compared to traditional lamination methods.

This special treatment gives the dial, which houses hands and indices sampled with SuperLumiNova, not only the same aesthetic appearance as lamination, but also superior resistance and uniformity over time. Everything is perfectly harmonised under the sapphire crystal, surrounded by the unidirectional rotating bezel on 120 polished tungsten snaps. The Nereid Aureus is moved by the Swiss Made Sellita SW200 calibre, mechanical automatic. The back, closed with screws, pays homage with an engraving to the majesty of the main nave of St. Mark's Basilica, with its walls adorned with gold leaf.
