"Nino Farina was the man of courage that bordered on the improbable. Capable of daring stunts that were often his winning move. A great driver, but one for whom one always had to be apprehensive...'. With these words Enzo Ferrari described Emilio Giuseppe Farina, known as 'Nino'.
Nino Farina, the first Formula One World Champion
Nino Farina was born in Turin on 30 October 1906 into a family of coachbuilders. His father Giovanni had founded 'Carrozzeria Farina', while his uncle Battista joined him at a very young age in what would later become a unique and unmistakable Made in Italy brand: the famous 'Pininfarina'.
Nino raced from the 1920s to the 1950s, his crowning achievement being winning the 1st Formula 1 World Championship. He won the world champion title at the Monza circuit by winning the 21st G.P. d'Italia, on 3 September 1950, in a 504-kilometre race at the wheel of the Alfa Romeo 159, an evolution of the Alfa Romeo 158.
Photos, films and posters celebrating the champion are on display at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese (Milan), as well as a 158 'Alfetta' on display. An Alfa Romeo 159, on the other hand, in which Farina also won the Daily Graphic Trophy at Goodwood on 29 September 1951 and Fangio the 1951 World Championship, can be admired at the National Automobile Museum in Turin (MAUTO).
The new Historiador Nino Farina II
Historiador Nino Farina II follows the first limited series, which sold out in a short time. It is a chronograph with a 40 mm steel case and a matt brown perforated calfskin strap with blue stitching.
Cuervo y Sobrinos made some changes compared to the previous series, changing the colours of the dial and reducing the size of the case by 2 mm. The silver/blue dial (in the previous version it was blue with brown details) is protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal with double curvature. The case back is embellished with a dedication to the world champion ('Primero Campeon Mundial' - the first world champion) and his signature.
Cuervo y Sobrinos: a new limited edition
The Historiador Nino Farina II is a limited edition of 158 individually numbered pieces: this number obviously refers to the legendary Alfa Romeo 158.
Some of the colours are a reminder of this: the hands of the minute and hour counters are red, like the car, while the central chrono seconds hand and part of the speedometer in the top right-hand corner are green like the four-leaf clover, Alfa Romeo's famous historical symbol.
At the heart of the timepiece is a Swiss Made automatic movement, the CyS 8129 calibre. Based on the ETA 2894, this calibre (visible from the back through a sapphire glass porthole) has an engraved oscillating weight, a balance oscillating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and boasts a 42-hour power reserve.
