In 2005 Omega introduced the Planet Ocean: inspired by the design of the Seamaster 300, with helium escape valve, rotating bezel (orange at its debut) and capable of withstanding a pressure of 60 atmospheres, it was the first Seamaster to be equipped with a Co-Axial movement (the calibre 2500).
Among its evolutions, the company has recently launched the Dark Grey version of the GMT function variant with 24-hour scale on the flange: an important watch in terms of dimensions, but one that focuses on lightness and resistance thanks to the use of high-tech materials.
Omega has introduced silicon nitride ceramic (Si3N4), a dark grey material that offers superior physical properties compared to traditional zirconium oxide-based ceramics, as well as optimal comfort on the wrist by virtue of its light weight (the total weight of the case and movement is 107 grams).
The 45.5 mm diameter watch case, bezel ring and case back with patented Naiad Lock system are made of silicon nitride ceramic. Resistance, on the other hand, is ensured by the grade 5 titanium used for the sandblasted dial with anthracite hands and markers, the bezel and the folding clasp of the rubber strap with grey fabric inserts. With a very eye-catching monochrome effect.
The monochrome effect is also continued in the colouring of the movement, the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer calibre 8906, in this version made of titanium (a further advantage in terms of lightness). It is protected by a domed sapphire glass back with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. The movement is resistant to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss.
