'Simple' for a Richard Millebecause it is a self-winding model with a date function and power reserve display. But only in appearance. Because the RM 30-01 Automatic, an evolution of the RM 030 of 2011, has a system that allows the rotor to be completely disconnected when the watch is fully wound.
The disengageable rotor is therefore capable of not adversely affecting running accuracy. Powering it is a technically complex calibre, the new RMAR2, which, compared to the previous version, now also features a function selector operated by a pusher located on the caseband at 2 o'clock, which allows the user to alternate between the 'traditional' manual winding (W), date setting (D) and time setting (H) functions. A hand at 3 indicates the selected function.
To eliminate any winding-related tension, the adjustable-geometry rotor automatically disengages when the power reserve reaches 55 hours, disconnecting itself from the winding mechanism. It then allows the movement to run when the torque delivered by the barrel constantly presents the optimal torque/power ratio.
When the stored energy begins to diminish, falling below the 40-hour power reserve threshold, the rotor automatically rewinds to wind the barrel spring. These phases can be observed on the mechanism's status indicator (at 11), which shows the wearer whether the rotor is in the winding phase (on) or off (off).
Aesthetically renewed as well, the RM 30-01 reinforces the skeletal style that also characterised the previous version, offering a new display of indications, also highlighted by coloured contours and a more angular design than the original model based on curved lines. The movement is integrated into the case: without the recessed ring, it is mounted on rubber mounts fixed by 4 grade 5 titanium screws. It is available in an all-titanium grade 5 version (CHF 185,000), or in red gold and titanium (CHF 225,000).
