A new look for the legendary Monaco chronograph by TAG Heuer which, for the first time, sports a skeleton dial through which the movement used can be glimpsed. It is the Heuer manufacture calibre 02 (168 components, 33 jewels, 32 mm diameter, 28,800 vib/h, column wheel, bridges decorated with côtes de Genève), a self-winding mechanical movement with an 80-hour power reserve and an engraved, skeletonised oscillating weight.
Introduced in 1969, TAG Heuer's Monaco quickly became one of the most iconic watches. Partly thanks to the fact that this iconic chronograph has appeared on the wrists of many personalities from the world of racing, such as Jo Siffert, Jochen Rindt and a true friend of the brand, Steve McQueen, who wore it during the filming of the 1971 Le Mans movie.
Another absolute novelty for this model, with its 39 mm case in sandblasted grade 2 titanium, is the presence of a date display at 6 o'clock, the back of which features the same luminescent treatment with SuperLuminova as the hour markers and hands.
Also on the dial, at 3 o'clock are the chrono minutes, at 9 o'clock the chrono hours, in the centre the chrono seconds (all indications using red hands) and at 6 o'clock the small seconds.
It is protected by a convex, bevelled sapphire crystal. Water resistance is guaranteed up to a pressure of 10 atmospheres. The back, closed by 4 screws, is fitted with a sapphire crystal porthole.
Three versions are available, distinguished by the colours used: 'Original Blue', inspired by the blue dial of the first TAG Heuer Monaco; 'Racing Red', which refers to the watch's racing DNA; 'Turquoise', in homage to the Monaco coastline, and which also employs a black Dlc-treated case (a tribute to the famous Monaco 'Dark Lord' of the 1960s).
In common between them is the innovative bi-material strap, a combination of rubber and leather for optimal comfort. The Grade 2 titanium folding clasp is customised and equipped with a double safety button.
