Although born in the new millennium, the Alpine Eagle by Chopard is the modern incarnation, albeit with the necessary modifications, of the sporty-chic St. Moritz line created by the brand in 1980. Available in a variety of versions - a time-only with date, a flyback chronograph, a high-frequency movement and a flying tourbillon - the collection is enriched with an ultra-thin model equipped with a small seconds display.
It is equipped with the automatic L.U.C 96.40-L calibre, just 3.30 mm thick (thanks in part to a 22-carat gold micro-rotor), which ensures a 65-hour power reserve thanks to two superimposed barrels using Chopard Twin technology. The subtlety of the movement means that the watch's overall proportions are optimised: the case, with a diameter of 41 mm, has been reduced to just 8 mm thick, and the case middle and bezel have been thinned for a wider dial aperture.
The dial is textured on a brass base in a motif inspired by the eagle's iris and features gold hands coated with Grade X1 SuperLuminova, which is brighter than the traditional 60% and more resistant to ageing.
The unprecedented colour, christened 'Monte Rosa', is inspired by the natural colour palette of the Alpine landscape: it evokes the rosy reflections that are at the origin of the name of the second highest massif in the Alps.
The case and bracelet are made of Lucent Steel A223, an ultra-strong, hypoallergenic steel alloy ethically produced in accordance with the company's philosophy: it is made from recycled materials and offers an extraordinary lustre equal to that of gold. The Alpine Eagle 41 XPS features the double certification of Chronometer Cosc and the Hallmark of Geneva.
