Launched in 1996, Vacheron Constantin's Overseas collection is easily recognisable thanks above all to its distinctive hexagonal notched bezel, whose design is reminiscent of the Maltese Cross, the House's logo. References to the famous Vacheron Constantin logo are also discernible in the shape of the links on the steel bracelet, which is easily replaceable thanks to two pushers on the back of the case. The Maison supplies two additional straps, one in calfskin and the other in rubber, both in black.
The chronograph version of the Overseas was launched in 1999, unless it underwent technical and aesthetic updates over time (notably in 2004 and 2016), leading up to the modern versions, powered by the IWC-manufactured 5200 automatic calibre with a power reserve of around 52 hours. The 22-carat gold oscillating weight is decorated with a compass rose.
The movement, stamped with the Hallmark of Geneva and visible through the sapphire glass porthole on the back, is equipped with a vertical clutch and column wheel. The latter has a very unusual shape, taking on the shape of the Maltese Cross again in the centre.
The new version features the 'panda' dial, particularly in vogue in the 1960s, with the counters engraved in thin concentric circles and the flange in black, contrasting with the rest of the satin-finished soleil silver dial.
Screw-locked pushers and crown contribute to the good water resistance figure of 15 atmospheres (150 metres).
