With the Legacy Machine, MB&F has been inspired by the watchmaking tradition of the 19th century, from which it takes and reinterprets the complications of the great masters. And with the Legacy Machine No 2 of 2013, in particular, celebrated the historic double regulator and the brilliant personalities behind this invention: Abraham-Louis Breguet, Ferdinand Berthoud and Antide Janvier.
Simple, but only in appearance: because, if at first glance it seems to indicate only hours and minutes, in reality the Legacy Machine No 2 has two completely independent escapements, each with its own suspended balance.
Looking at the dial, in fact, one can see that each balance beats autonomously, thanks to a central planetary differential that performs three main functions: to transfer energy to the two regulating organs; to receive the time scan individually from each balance; and to transmit this time reading to the wheel train where it manifests itself in the form of a time display.
Ten years after its launch, the brand is celebrating its anniversary with an edition of just 18 in palladium, one of the most precious but also incredibly difficult metals to work with. Beautifully paired with an aquamarine dial with a finely engraved sunburst motif that catches the light from various angles, offering the viewer its hypnotic movement developed by Jean-François Mojon and Kari Voutilainen, who took care of the superlative hand finishing that reflects the quality of the most traditional 19th century movements.
