Who does not know the Vulcain brand, especially thanks to the legendary Cricket alarm clocks? Today, the Helvetic House, founded in 1858 in Le Locle, is back on the scene with a timepiece that is part of its rich heritage. In fact, the Maison returned to the attention of enthusiasts as early as last October, thanks to Guillaume Laidet, who drew on Vulcain's past by launching a modern version of the historic Cricket. Now it is the turn of the reinterpretation of another model already produced by the brand in the 1960s: the Skindiver Nautique 38 mm diver's watch.
The modern Nautique differs from the model produced by Vulcain between 1960 and 1969 in several respects. First of all, the diameter of the steel case, which has been increased from 37 to 38 mm, a size that is in any case not exaggerated and easily wearable in everyday life. The watch is available in two dial colours, black or blue, protected by a heavily domed sapphire crystal.
The baton hands and geometric markers are sprinkled with brown SuperLuminova, the case back and crown (knurled and personalised) are screwed down, the bezel (knurled at the edge) is unidirectional rotating and fitted with a ceramic insert.
The Skindiver Nautique 38 mm is driven by the ETA calibre 2824 (28,800 vibrations per hour, 38-hour power reserve) and is guaranteed water-resistant to a pressure of 200 metres.
Complementing it is a leather strap with a carbon fibre pattern, combined with a personalised polished steel pin buckle. In light of the above, the price of 1,490 Swiss francs (equivalent to exactly 1,490 euros at today's exchange rate) seems very competitive.
