Launched for the first time in 2019, the Cosmos from Girard-Perregaux is a pluricomplicate equipped with a tourbillon device with a titanium cage, visible at 6 o'clock. Speaking of this device, the adoption of a lyre-shaped cage is noteworthy, as well as the presence of the black PVD-treated Neo-Bridge (as well as the main plate), an iconic element of Girard-Perregaux, and which is a contemporary interpretation of the arrow-shaped bridge conceived by Constant Girard in the 19th century.
For this latest edition, Girard-Perregaux has decided to offer three variants, characterised respectively by the use of aventurine, obsidian and onyx and, finally, a combination of spectrolite and aventurine. The aforementioned tourbillon is accompanied by two other complications, namely a reproduction of the terrestrial globe, at 3 o'clock, serving as a day/night indicator, and a celestial globe, at 9 o'clock, displaying the constellations of the zodiac.
All three pieces (which are one-offs) have a two-part dial made of aventurine, obsidian or spectrolite, combined with black aventurine or onyx globes. The globes sport hand-painted gold micro-paintings, made in a process that takes no less than 14 hours.
All three of these Cosmos (available exclusively from The Hour Glass) employ a 47 mm grade 5 titanium case and the in-house GP09320-1902 calibre (368 components, 52 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour, power reserve of at least 57 hours), a hand-wound mechanical movement. Finally, it is worth noting the absence of the winding crown, replaced by three bélières with luminescent ceramic engravings, positioned on the back of the case, useful for winding the movement and adjusting the indications.
