To mark the 60th anniversary of the James Bond franchise, Omega has released two new watches, each paying tribute to Her Majesty's secret agent through innovation and striking materials, with a touch of cinematic magic in the design
On 5 October 1962, 007 made his cinema debut: 60 years later, James Bond is still the world's most famous secret agent. Part of his outfit since 1995 in the film "GoldenEye", Omega's Seamaster has been one of the main protagonists of the saga ever since. To celebrate these 60 years, the company has released two new special editions of the Seamaster Diver 300M.
The steel version is inspired by the same Seamaster 300M worn by 007 in 'GoldenEye': 42 mm case, helium valve, unidirectional bezel and wave-pattern dial, both blue. All this, however, in a set-up without a date display and mixing vintage elements such as the Milanese mesh bracelet (already used in the model for the latest 2021 film 'No time to die'). The commemorative '60' replaces the traditional inverted triangle on the diving scale. The movement is the Co-Axial Master Chronometer calibre 8806.
But it is by turning it from the back side that the 'cinema effect' appears. Remember the animated caseback that Omega introduced on the Snoopy? In this one, too, there is an animation, obviously Bond-themed: the scene from the famous 007 opening sequence, with the silhouette of the secret agent and the design of the gun barrel rotating depicted using a micro-structured metallisation technique, is activated under the sapphire crystal, linked to the movement of the new central Lollipop seconds hand. It is a patent-pending system. Price: 8,500 euros.
The version in Canopus Gold (Omega's proprietary white gold alloy) has a dial in natural grey silicon, a reference to the beautiful sands of Ian Fleming's Jamaican estate, GoldenEye. The bezel is paved with natural diamonds treated in the colours of the Jamaican flag. The movement is the Co-Axial Master Chronometer calibre 8807. It features the same animation on the case back.
The House also offers a series of themed commemorative accessories (sailing bracelets and cufflinks).
