After the relaunch in 2020 of its multifunction sports watch born in the 1980s, Breitling is introducing some new features with the Chronomat Automatic GMT 40. Starting with an intermediate size of 40 mm, which was still missing from the catalogue, and also adding, alongside larger chronographs or smaller three-hand models, the sole function of reading a second time zone. Continuing in an increasingly defined direction that focuses on elegance, comfort and sportiness.
40 mm in diameter and only 11.77 thick make it suitable for everyday wear, without sacrificing the water-resistance rating of up to 200 metres of the larger versions, the protected onion crown, or the Rouleaux bracelet with its characteristic cylindrical links.
In contrast to the chronographs, the 3 and 9 o'clock pivots, true to the original, are no longer interchangeable, to be used for both counting and countdown functions, but fixed, also in favour of a cleaner line and a slimmer (but still unidirectional rotating) bezel.
The steel case matches various dial versions (black, blue, green, anthracite and white), with tone-on-tone 24-hour scale and red GMT hand. The movement is the automatic Breitling calibre 32 (ETA base), Cosc-certified.
