Four years have passed since Baume & Mercier introduced an automatic movement developed in-house with silicon components to the market. And with it a new collection: Clifton Baumatic. The intention behind it was to minimise the inconveniences caused by four historical sources of discontent common to the entire watchmaking world: problems due to magnetism, insufficient power reserve, lack of accuracy, and service costs. The Baumatic's main features include a 5-day power reserve and an anti-magnetism 25 times greater than current standards. The movement was later also introduced on the Riviera.
The Clifton Baumatic collection has evolved over the years, asserting itself for its simple and elegant design, without too many frills but with a keen eye for detail, as demonstrated by one of the Cosc-certified models: the Clifton Baumatic Data Cosc, with a 40 mm diameter (and 11.3 mm thick) steel case combined with a black alligator leather strap with square scales. Its black lacquered dial - featuring a white crosshair in the centre and slightly elongated trapezoid hour markers - displays the hours, minutes, seconds and date in a large window at 3 o'clock. Its motor is the Baumatic BM13 calibre.
A watch that is coherently in line, stylistically, with the brand's DNA but also with attention to the smallest details. This is demonstrated by credentials usually found in 'resident' models in higher price brackets, such as the chronometer certification, the open back on the decorated movement or the interchangeable alligator strap with quick release system, which can be replaced with one in calfskin leather in five patinated colours (blue, brown, grey, green and red).
