The suggestions of nature and Japanese landscapes are the inspiration for some of Grand Seiko's most exclusive dials. As in the case of Lake Suwa, which freezes over in the winter cold, creating frozen ridges. A particular effect, which in the legends of the Rising Sun is called "Omiwatari": "the place where the gods walk on ice".
And that in 2021 became the star of the dial of a Grand Seiko model from the Elegance collection, featuring a delicate wavy and hammered motif.
This year, the suggestion of the same landscape returns in a new version, in which the silver dial recalls in colour and texture the appearance and texture of the snow-covered ice on Lake Suwa.
The Grand Seiko Omiwatari SBGY013 also features an innovation: a 9-link steel bracelet, reminiscent of rice grain bracelets, but flatter and more comfortable. The other features are: a steel case and a hand-wound Spring Drive 9R31 calibre which, with two barrel springs arranged in parallel, guarantees a 72-hour power reserve (the indicator is displayed on the back side).
This traditional method of generating mechanical energy gives the watch complete autonomy, without the need for a battery, despite the quartz oscillator.
Turning the winding crown winds the springs in the barrels. In this way, the mechanical movement stores energy, which is then transferred to the gears and used to move the hands in the smooth and uniform manner characteristic of Spring Drive. The Spring Drive 9R31 calibre boasts an accuracy of ±1 second per day (±15 seconds per month).
