In 1969, Doxa watches became the official watches of the Swiss Army's elite diving unit. At the time, some 150 examples of the SUB 300T became part of the equipment of Swiss military divers. Then, in 1968, Doxa developed a model explicitly dedicated to the aforementioned military, named Army.
More than 50 years later, the company pays tribute to that historic period with a re-edition of the Army in steel, following the limited ceramic edition (limited to 100 pieces) presented last April. The steel Doxa Army echoes the aesthetic codes of the original model and employs a 42.5 mm case, combined with a rubber strap or a steel bracelet with a "gran de riz" link.
Water-resistant to a pressure of 30 atmospheres, the Doxa Army is coupled with a unidirectional rotating bezel available in bronze (a first for the House) with a hunter green ceramic insert or in steel with a black ceramic insert. In addition, all dive indications have a Super-LumiNova luminescent coating, which guarantees excellent legibility. The glass protecting the dial, which is black in colour, is a sapphire crystal.
The self-winding mechanical movement used is the ETA 2024 calibre (25 jewels, 28,800 vibrations per hour, customised by Doxa), which offers a power reserve of 38 hours. All Doxa Army watches come with an additional NATO strap with a camouflage motif. The special case echoes the original Swiss Army camouflage motif of the time.
The new steel Doxa Army will be available from October at all Doxa sales outlets and on the website www.doxawatches.com.
