Prestigious watches, vintage cars and good wine. It is not a dream and not even a letter for Father Christmas in advance, but the programme of a unique event of which l'Orologio could only be media partner. The initiative is the brainchild of Jacopo Spangaro, owner together with his father of two historic jewellery stores in Udine, with the aim of creating a new formula for vintage watch enthusiasts, which transforms the classic auction into a pleasant weekend among the vineyards of Friuli. "I realised that after all the most important auctions in the sector, where pieces with record prices are exchanged, no one talks about watches any more, but only about how much they managed to earn," says Spangaro, "and what's more, it all takes place in aseptic and boring surroundings.
Thus was born the format of The One, a name chosen not by chance to indicate the first edition of the event and also its uniqueness. "The programme takes place over three days," explains Spangaro. "The day of Thursday 15 will be dedicated to the preview of the lots with the possibility of viewing the watches inside as well, thanks to our technicians. On Friday 16, for those who have decided to participate with their own vintage car, we will set off on a tour through the hills, on the same route as the Cividale-Castelmonte cronoscalata. The gala dinner at the Venica & Venica winery will be the highlight of the weekend, with a concert by trumpeter Mauro Maur to the notes of Ennio Morricone, and finally on Saturday, between 2 and 6 p.m., the auction will take place".
With more than 150 lots for sale (among others, Patek Philippe, Cartier, Omega Speedmaster), with an estimated value of between 2 and 2.5 million euro, The One does not intend to compete with the auctions organised by the big names in the sector, but it is undoubtedly an interesting alternative, ideal for those who do not intend to approach vintage watchmaking purely for business reasons. The director of L'Orologio, Dody Giussani, has no doubts: "We have enthusiastically embraced Jacopo's initiative, which also struck us for its cultural content, which fits in well with our mission to promote and disseminate a passion for mechanical watchmaking.
