Mido is Official Timekeeper of Dominate The Water, a major open-water swimming competition circuit. The Swiss watchmaker has chosen the new Ocean Star 600 Chronometer DLC to embody this new partnership, which is also aimed at protecting the seas and safeguarding the environment.
Dominate The Water was born in 2021, and is an open water swimming competition for competitive, masters and professional swimmers. It is a true sports festival, as well as an ode to the sea. The calendar of Dominate The Water includes competitions taking place in the most enchanting settings of the Bel Paese, with the aim of raising awareness on the issue of environmental sustainability. In fact, biodegradable materials and environmentally sustainable products will be used during the competitions: the prizes and medals, for example, will be made of wood and canoes and sup will be used instead of motor boats to follow the athletes.
This year's Dominate The Water calendar includes four stages: Lignano Sabbiadoro (30/31 July), Taranto (10/11 September), Asinara and Stintino (17/18 September) and Positano (24/25 September). In each stage, people will swim for two days with three race formats for all ages and levels of preparation: the 3 km FIN/Open, the 4×750 m relay, and the mile with a Village near the event.
As mentioned, to celebrate this new partnership Mido has chosen the new Ocean Star 600 Chronometer DLC, a professional diver who is water-resistant to a pressure of 60 atmospheres and equipped with a helium gas escape valve. The 43.5 mm steel case has a unidirectional rotating bezel with a hi-tech ceramic ring. The dial, with hands and indexes subjected to a SuperLuminova luminescent treatment, is protected by a double-sided anti-reflective sapphire crystal. It is powered by Calibre 80 (25 jewels, 28,800 vibrations per hour, 80-hour power reserve), a mechanical automatic with silicon balance spring.
The watch, on sale for €1,650, has a DLC-treated steel bracelet with a folding clasp fitted with an extension for wearing the watch over a wetsuit. It also comes with an additional black rubber strap with a steel pin buckle that has also undergone a black DLC treatment.
