The Ranger, the essential Tudor watch designed for adventure, is back. Already revived in 2014, it is back in the catalogue with this new version celebrating 70 years of the British Scientific Expedition to Greenland. Tudor, like Rolex, is in fact linked to the world of exploration: in 1952, it took part with its watches in the important two-year mission to study the ice cap.
The new Ranger, which was inspired by the Oyster Prince worn by the members of the historic expedition (although these did not yet bear the name Ranger on the dial), carries on the tradition of the exploration watch: essential, without any additional functions, designed to withstand most conditions.
Compared to the 2014 re-edition (41 mm) that is no longer in production, it is offered with a 39 mm steel case, entirely satin-finished to give that matt effect typical of tool watches. The dial echoes the original Ranger style, with Arabic numerals at the quarters. Giving it a retro aura are the indices painted with a phosphorescent beige coating, in stark contrast to the matt black grené of the background.
Even the hands are in keeping with a vintage look: arrow-shaped hour hands and baton-shaped minute hands. A change is made for the seconds sphere, now with a burgundy tip. Water resistance is 100 metres. The modernity of this model lies in its new-generation technical elements. First and foremost, the manufacture calibre MT5402, Cosc-certified, with silicon balance spring and a 70-hour power reserve. But also in the Tudor 'T fit' clasp for quick adjustment of the bracelet length (up to 8 mm). The company also offers it with a Julien Faure jacquard fabric strap with a pin buckle, or in natural rubber and textured black textile-effect leather, with beige stitching and a folding clasp.
