Created in 1998, Bulgari's Aluminium, thanks to its combination of aluminium and rubber, has been a highly recognisable timepiece right from the start. Bulgari has recently launched a special edition of this famous watch, limited to just 1,000 pieces, paying homage to arguably the most beautiful training ship in the world, the Amerigo Vespucci, owned by the Italian Navy. The watch uses a 40 mm aluminium case, combined with a titanium case back and a black rubber bezel engraved with the double Bulgari logo.
On the dial, with its luminescent hands and hour markers, is the 24-hour scale with its GMT hand. The colours chosen for the seconds hand, GMT hand and the night hours on the 24-hour scale echo the shades of the Amerigo Vespucci. Note, at 6 o'clock, below the model name, the presence of the tricolour.
Water-resistant to a pressure of 10 atmospheres, this Special Edition is powered by the BVL calibre 192 (Sellita-based, 28,800 vibrations per hour, 50-hour power reserve), a self-winding mechanical movement. Each of the 1,000 watches in the Special Edition comes with a mahogany box engraved with the ship's motto, 'Not he who begins but he who perseveres', which is also featured on the case back.
