Maghnam's wrist 'spaceships

Creativity, expertise and audacity are the indispensable characteristics for launching oneself independently into the world of watchmaking, and Palestinian designer Sohaib Maghnam seems to possess them all.

Halfway between a spaceship and a supercar, the Madar model (satellite, in Arabic) has a rotating case covered by a sort of shield with a narrow vertical opening through which the time can be read. It is available in polished, brushed and burnished steel, with a black, white or blue PVD finish. The display is entrusted to two transparent rotating discs, with the hours jumping on the outside and the minutes on the inside. The case can rotate freely like a bidirectional bezel, making it easier to see (driving a car, for example), or to fit the wearer's right wrist. The movement is a mechanical self-winding Sellita SW200 calibre, or STP 1-11, both with 28,800 vibrations per hour, 26 jewels and 40 hours of power reserve, with the addition of a jumping hour module made by Sohaib Maghnam himself. On sale from €3,950.

Maghnam has customers all over the world and distribution is for the moment only via the brand's website, from which customised details can also be requested. The first model to be launched by Maghnam in 2019, christened Makina, has the same layout as the Madar: disc hour display, jumping hours and crown at the top, but the case is fixed and the look is reminiscent of the car world.
