Much more than just 'Made in Germany'. In fact, a legislative regulation has just been passed which aims to grant significant social status to watch production made in Glashütte. This means that watches produced in the German town will bear the wording 'Glashütte' which, although limited not to the whole of Germany but to an extremely restricted geographical area, will protect the brands concerned, including Nomos Glashütte and eight other local manufacturers, from imitations and counterfeiters, in the same way as the wording 'Genève' on watches produced in Switzerland. This means that the brands will have to comply with strict criteria and carry out all relevant work locally. To the benefit above all of consumers, who will thus be able to be certain that watches bearing the 'Glashütte' inscription have actually been made in the town of the same name and in compliance with high quality standards. "This new regulation also contributes to enhancing the reputation of our town," said Uwe Ahrendt, Managing Director of Nomos Glashütte. "It honours everything that has been made here since 1845. The Nomos Glashütte manufacture far exceeds the requirements of the regulations and produces all of its eleven calibres in its own workshops in Glashütte, with a degree of vertical integration of production that reaches 95% and a quality second to none." The label 'Made in Glashütte' therefore boasts even greater prestige than 'Made in Germany', as Dr. Wolfgang Straub, one of the lawyers involved in the regulation process, emphasises: "Once again, Glashütte's stringent quality criteria unequivocally surpass the value of the famous 'Made in Germany'.
