Ressence is a very ambitious independent house. The brand recently presented the Type 3BB, which is based on the Type 3 that won the design award at the GPHG in 2013. The new variant, where the acronym 'BBB' stands for 'Black Black', comes in a monochrome version that focuses everything on black, from the 44 mm DLC titanium case, to the dial, to the strap. The operation of the Type 3 BBB is based on the ROCS (Ressence Orbital Convex System), an exclusive watch module developed in-house and consisting of discs and dials that continuously rotate around each other. The information is displayed in a single plane: this dial differs from that of a traditional watch where the overlapping of the hands on the dial produces an irregular plane of vision. Furthermore, the Type 3 is the first mechanical watch filled with oil: this revolutionary timepiece was designed with a 'water drop' effect dial. The eye suddenly loses its depth perception because oil and glass share very similar reactions to the refraction of light. The result is that the watch face seems closer. From a technical point of view, Ressence has designed a two-part system inside the Type 3 BBB to separate the mechanical movement (based on ETA 2824-2) from the oil: the lower part therefore comprises the modified automatic movement, while the upper part is hermetically sealed with the ROCS display module immersed in 35.7 ml of oil, which varies in a range from -5 to +55 degrees Celsius. The Type 3 BBB then uses a magnetic drive that links several micro-magnets together, positioned both in the oil-filled upper part and in the lower, so-called dry part. The watch provides indications of the hours, minutes, date, day of the week and temperature of the oil used.
