Moser between simplicity and complexity

After the presentation in 2005 of the Perpetual 1, which offered perpetual calendar indications in a novel manner, H. Moser & Cie. decided in 2021 to modify its movement by introducing an instantaneous date change in a version equipped with four centre hands. The manual HMC 812 calibre was born, featuring the addition of a centre seconds hand. It benefits the Streamliner collection, with its Perpetual Calendar. "The movement has been re-engineered, but above all we have changed the seconds display," explains Edouard Meylan, CEO of the brand since 2013. "Our traditional perpetual has the small seconds at 6 o'clock, the power reserve at 9 o'clock and the date at 3 o'clock. By incorporating the calibre in the Streamliner, we wanted to create a family feeling with the other models in the collection. To this end, we rotated the movement to position the crown at 4 o'clock, as on the chronograph. Then we introduced direct central seconds, reminiscent of the Centre Seconds sphere. An example of simplicity and ingenuity, the HMC 812, like the calibre from which it originates, uses hour-markers to indicate the months, thanks to a small red and white central hand, and guarantees a power reserve of 168 hours (displayed on the smoky dial at 10 o'clock). At 4 o'clock, a large window indicates the instantaneous date, which can be adjusted forwards or backwards at any time. The leap year indicator is located on the movement, visible through the case back. The case was also renewed: "We worked to adapt it to the new movement, while keeping it as slim as possible. So, at the same time, we also worked on the movement to adapt it to the case". The Streamliner, in steel, is fastened to the wrist by an integrated bracelet with an extremely complex design, with articulated links forming a sort of delicate wave that alternates between polished and brushed finishes.
