Do you know how many indications can be read on the Chinese calendar? Try counting them on the dial of this watch. The first Blancpain with a Chinese calendar display dates back to 2012. A truly original complication, of which Blancpain will give a new interpretation in 2022 with the Villeret Calendrier Chinois Traditionnel, driven by the calibre 3638 (464 components, 39 jewels, 168-hour power reserve), automatic mechanical, in a 45 mm platinum case and produced in a limited edition of just 50 pieces. This particular timepiece features the Chinese luni-solar calendar indications on a dial in white grand feu enamel. The zodiac sign of the year, the tiger, is engraved on the gold rotor, on which a Madagascar ruby is set. Another ruby from Madagascar is set on the crown. The Calendrier Chinois Traditionnel is an exclusive complication developed by Blancpain, based on principles established over thousands of years and closely linked to Chinese tradition. In addition to the hours, minutes and date according to the Gregorian calendar, the main indications of the Chinese calendar appear on the dial: the double hours, the day and month with the mention of the intercalary month, the signs of the zodiac, the five elements and the celestial pillars. It is precisely these latter, combined with the 12 earth logs (represented by the animals of the zodiac) that make up the 60 different pairs that form the sexagesimal cycle of the Chinese system of time measurement. In addition, the two counters at 3 and 9 o'clock show the celestial trunks and the five elements (in addition to the month and date), while the intercalary months appear in a round window. Finally, the moon phases (at 6 o'clock) are used to determine the months of the Chinese calendar. This new edition of the Villeret Calendrier Chinois Traditionnel will mark the transition to the year of the tiger 2022 (running from 1 February 2022 to 21 January 2023).
