Seiko's new Prospex King Samurai draws its design inspiration from the traditional Japanese naval forces, the so-called 'Suigun' who, since ancient times, lived in the coastal areas of Japan and were recognised for the vital role they played in both security and sea trade. The name 'Samurai', attributed by the company's aficionados, derives from the particular design of the case, which features several details reminiscent of the famous Japanese warriors. Like the diamond motif engraved on the edge of the unidirectional rotating bezel with its ceramic ring, a tribute to the diamond decorations that embellished the hilt of Japanese swords, or like the red colour of the dial, inspired by the "Shu-iro", the vermilion-coloured lacquered armour used by the Japanese armed forces. On the same dial (protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal) are luminescent oversized Lumibrite hands and hour markers and the date window at 3 o'clock, equipped with a magnifying glass. The steel case is an impressive 43.8 mm in diameter by 12.8 mm thick and is guaranteed water-resistant to 20 atmospheres of pressure. Inside beats the calibre 4R35 (23 jewels, 28,800 vibrations per hour, 41-hour power reserve), mechanical automatic. The watch is fitted with a steel bracelet with a folding clasp with safety button and comes with a second black silicone strap. This is a limited and numbered edition of 3,500 pieces, made exclusively for the European market.
