Sarah Hirini, captain of New Zealand's national women's rugby sevens team, the Black Ferns Sevens, is the new Tudor ambassador. The first rugby player to land a New Zealand signing in 2013, she has since enjoyed a brilliant career during which she has achieved extraordinary goals in both disciplines of the sport. Awaiting her in 2022 will be the Rugby 7-a-side World Cup and the 2021 Women's Rugby World Cup, postponed by one year. The watch she is wearing is the 2021 edition of the famous Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight, in 925 sterling silver and with a transparent case back: two features never before seen in a dive model from the brand. The name of the timepiece refers not only to the material of the case but also to 1958, the year in which the brand launched its first diver's watch, reference 7924, also known as the "Big Crown", water-resistant to 200 metres like the current model. Other aesthetic references that evoke that historic watch include a 39 mm diameter case that gives it the characteristic proportions of the 1950s. The latter, in silver as already mentioned, is enhanced by the dove-coloured dial, with the characteristic "Snowflake" hands that first appeared in the brand's 1969 catalogue, and the matching bezel disc. At the heart of the watch is the MT5400 calibre, an in-house self-winding mechanical movement with bidirectional rotor, antimagnetic balance spring in silicon, a power reserve of around 70 hours and Cosc certification.
