The project, developed in collaboration with the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne, was launched by Swiss film producers Garidi Films. Inaugurated last June, the activity allows visitors to climb the last few metres of the famous Swiss mountain on a real-life climbing wall, complete with harnesses, VR goggles and a foot and hand tracking option. During the ascent, climbers will be able to check their altitude thanks to the AlpinerX Smart Outdoors smartwatch that they will wear virtually on their wrist. 4D effects such as wind, vibrations and textures make this unique adventure even more real and superior to all existing virtual reality experiences. Mount Matterhorn stands out for its majestic pyramid-like profile and its rocky spur that culminates at a height of 4,478 metres. Located in the canton of Valais, between Zermatt and the Italian resort of Breuil-Cervinia, the Matterhorn, also known as the Matterhorn, is one of Europe's most famous mountains. In addition to being an integral part of the heritage, the Matterhorn plays a major role in Swiss tourism, attracting the most passionate mountaineers. The Matterhorn's climbing project, dubbed 'Red Bull The Edge', realises the dream of those who cannot venture between its craggy peaks. Visitors will be able to climb a climbing wall located in a wooden pavilion - whose shape recalls the mountain's triangular silhouette - outside the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne. Thanks to the latest 3D technology, as well as a set of VR goggles, foot and hand tracking sensors and climbing harnesses, climbers will immerse themselves in an incredibly realistic interactive experience, offering a virtual and real reconstruction of the panorama and climbing experience. In addition, 4D effects such as wind, vibrations and textures help bridge the gap between the real and the virtual, making this adventure even more unique and superior to all existing virtual reality experiences. Created for the outdoor sports enthusiast and equipped with environmental sensors, the AlpinerX Smart Outdoors offers numerous measurement functions, such as altitude, temperature, pressure, direction, UV index and heart rate monitoring during workouts (BLE connection with heart rate monitor band). The AlpinerX Smart Outdoors also records and analyses sleep cycles, as well as notifying messages and missed calls. Measuring each parameter in real time, the watch transfers the data to its user's smartphone via the Alpina Smartwatch application, available for iOS and Android, with the aim of analysing activity and proposing solutions for improvement.
