Grand Seiko - Masterpiece Collection Ref. SBGD207J

This new Grand Seiko model from the Masterpiece Collection (Ref. SBGD207J) sports a series of precious stones on its dial. Specifically, these are green garnets and baguette-cut diamonds, set on an 18-carat white gold base and separated by a further 48 diamonds and 12 garnets set individually around the hour markers to enhance the depth and beauty of the dial. The side-by-side arrangement of the gems requires great skill, so they have been set with extreme precision inside a very thin rail by the most experienced goldsmiths at the Shinshu Watch Studio, which shares Shiojiri's facility with the Micro Artist Studio. The gems are arranged horizontally to catch the light evenly; in total there are 97 diamonds (equivalent to 2.58 carats) and 24 green garnets (0.63 carats). The garnet at twelve o'clock is slightly wider than the others to ensure perfect legibility. The watch, with its 43 mm platinum case, is powered by the Spring Drive 8 Days calibre 9R01, which guarantees an accuracy of ±10 seconds per month and a power reserve of an impressive 192 hours. This calibre integrates three barrels in series, and the power reserve is shown by an indicator visible on the caseback side, along with the refined finish of the one-piece bridge designed in the image of Mount Fuji. The aforementioned 950 platinum case is finished with a Zaratsu polishing form specifically adapted for platinum. The watch is produced in a limited edition of only 15 pieces and will be available at Grand Seiko Boutiques from May 2021.

Approximate recommended retail price in Europe: 195,000 euros.
