Presented on the occasion of Watches and Wonders 2021, the new Triple Split from A. Lange & Söhne in rose gold with a blue dial and rhodium-plated dials complements the previous edition in white gold with a grey dial. With this watch, in a limited edition of 100 pieces, it is possible to time up to twelve hours, a rarity for a mechanical chronograph. The extension of the split-seconds function to the hour counter offers a large number of other applications. It can be used to compare the times of two opponents in a Formula 1 race, a stage of the Tour de France or a marathon. It is also possible to record the times of events that start one after the other or to add those of events lasting several hours, such as the times of individual disciplines in the ironman. An indefinite number of intermediate times can also be recorded during an additional measurement. It is equipped with the Lange calibre L132.1, a hand-wound mechanical movement visible through the sapphire glass back. It consists of a total of 567 perfectly coordinated tiny elements, a complexity necessary to make the triple split function possible. The realisation of a mechanism that allows three pairs of hands to be operated synchronously or independently of each other posed a huge technical challenge for Lange's watchmakers. Even a simple split-seconds mechanism has two hands fixed on shafts that rotate into each other. In the L132.1 calibre, this arrangement is present three times. The multiple configuration of the axes requires a high degree of precision and skill when assembling the movement. The watch is on sale for €163,400.
