The Saxonia Grande Data with silver-plated dial is available with a 38.5 mm white gold or rose gold case. Günter Blümlein, who together with Walter Lange founded A. Lange & Söhne 30 years ago, said: 'A Lange watch is a total work of art. It combines the watchmakers' passion for mechanics and craftsmanship with the brand's unmistakable style and rich history'. A description that is perfectly reflected in the two silver-dialled versions of the Saxonia Grande Data, which join those with a black dial presented in 2018. The name Saxonia obviously refers to the history of Saxony, a southeastern region of Germany that soon became a pioneer of German industrialisation. Walter Lange, great-grandson of Ferdinand Adolph Lange, has contributed significantly to the reconstruction of Saxon precision watchmaking since 1990. Walter Lange has always said: 'From the very beginning, we wanted to develop watches that were sober and classic in appearance, but at the same time extremely modern. In the Saxonia Grande Data, Lange's characteristic style is reflected in numerous design details, such as the solid gold, bevelled and polished baton hour markers. The Ggande date has been an iconic element for Lange since the launch of the first collection in 1994 that included the first Saxonia model. On the minimalist dial, the latter is positioned at 12 o'clock and the small seconds counter at 6 o'clock counterbalances its appearance. The automatic manufacture calibre of the Saxonia Grande Data, hand-assembled twice and based on the L086.1 calibre of the automatic model, is a significant example of this. The complex date mechanism increases the number of components from 209 to 286. The refined construction has two separate elements for displaying the units and tens and is at least twice the size of comparable watches. A large central rotor supported by bearings with a platinum oscillating weight ensures effective winding of the L086.8 automatic movement. The barrel provides a maximum power reserve of 72 hours; other mechanical highlights include the classic screw balance and the freely oscillating Lange balance spring. Lange's characteristic style is also reflected in various details of the movement, such as the three-quarter plate made of natural nickel silver with Glashütte band polishing and the hand-engraved balance bridge with its swan-neck spring for micrometric declination adjustment. Finally, the strap is leather and hand-stitched.
