Like the metropolis, the Excalibur Blacklight transforms as it transitions from day to night: during the day, the timepiece is dressed in refined and discreet shades of white, black and grey; at night, the calibre and the watch flange explode in a kaleidoscope of stunning colours. Driven by the innovative IWC-manufactured skeletonised automatic calibre RD820SQ (awarded the Hallmark of Geneva), the Excalibur Blacklight is distinguished by a network of UV-sensitive sapphire crystal microstructures that in turn intertwine with the skeletonised components of the movement. The final touch to the Excalibur Blacklight's vivid interpretation of Asia's major capitals is undoubtedly the 42 mm white gold case set with brilliant-cut diamonds, counterbalanced by a luminescent rubber strap. In addition, with the Excalibur Blacklight, the Geneva-based Maison has inaugurated a collaboration with one of the ultimate masters of metropolitan neon lights: Wu Chi Kai. In fact, the House asked him to transform one of Roger Dubuis' signature codes into one of Hong Kong's iconic neon lights, in homage to the Excalibur Blacklight. Says Wu: 'Of course, neon-art is very close to my heart and it is what gives Hong Kong its metropolitan atmosphere and style. Neon-art requires attention to detail, expertise and craftsmanship - all skills that I admire in the watchmakers of Roger Dubuis. As a neon maker, I greatly appreciate the way Roger Dubuis has employed this very unique art and technique in the creation of the Excalibur Blacklight." The Excalibur Blacklight, produced in a limited edition of just eight pieces available exclusively in the brand's boutiques, is the Maison's most original creation and is dedicated to those who really want to stand out with a tribute to the spectacular aesthetics of Asia's ultra-modern metropolitan landscapes. The House has also presented a second Excalibur Blacklight, completely dressed in pink gold, from the bezel to the bracelet, and also made unique and exclusive by the coloured precious stones that illuminate it.
