On 5 November in Milan, as part of the Milano d'Oro event, the winners of the Orologio dell'Anno 2020 (Watch of the Year 2020), the prestigious Italian watchmaking award assigned every year by the monthly magazine L'Orologio, will be honoured.
Thirteen were the winning watches, decreed on the basis of the preferences expressed by the reading public. The prizes will be presented to the heads of the manufacturers during an event organised in collaboration with Vicenzaoro, this edition's sponsor.
The competition, involving enthusiasts and collectors, began in 1993, when the magazine L'Orologio set out to draw up a ranking of the watches most dreamed of by Italians. In 1994, that ranking became the Top Watch award.
Twenty-seven years later, having evolved into its current formula and become Watch of the Year, this special award for quality watches is an unmissable event, eagerly awaited by the industry and characterised by strong public participation.
The 2020 winners were elected by the readers of L'Orologio from a shortlist of 36 watches, pre-selected by the editorial team for technical content, historical relevance and quality of achievement: www.orologioblog.net/orologio-dellanno-2020. The current categories into which the watches nominated for the prize are divided are 12: Solotempo, Complicato, Cronografo, Subacqueo, Tourbillon, Donna, Calendari, Nuove Tecnologie, Nuovi Materiali, Design, Savoir-Faire and Rapporto Qualità/Prezzo. Added to these is the Special Prize awarded by the members of L'Orologio Club, who were called upon to vote for their favourite among all 36 watches in the competition.
The award ceremony will take place on Thursday 5 November at 5 p.m. at the Antonini Milano showroom, Palazzo Borromeo. Event by invitation only.
