If we consider all colours perceived by our eyes as frequencies of visible light, violet has the absolute highest frequency, beyond which we reach ultraviolet light, which is invisible. This is one of the reasons why Zenith decided to combine this colour shade with the Defy 21, the chronograph with the highest frequency regularly in production (36,000 A/h for the watch, 360,000 A/h for the chronograph). For the first time in the world of watchmaking, Zenith has exclusively created an automatic chronograph movement in the shade of violet, with the launch of the new Defy 21 Ultraviolet. The watch is powered by the El Primero 21 calibre, a chronograph movement accurate to 1/100th of a second, oscillating at the incredible frequency of 50 Hz. Visible through the skeleton dial, which features three grey chronograph counters and a grey and black flange, the violet-coloured movement is enhanced by the Defy 21's avant-garde design and concept, with open and "angular" bridges. Featuring a white tip, the flush-mounted chrono seconds hand, with a 1/100th of a second reading accuracy, makes a complete revolution of the dial in one second. In addition to the 50th anniversary edition of the Defy 21 El Primero, available exclusively in a special set with two other watches, the Defy 21 Ultraviolet is the first model in the collection with an open dial combined with closed chronograph counters. The facetted 44 mm case enhances the purple bridges of the movement, creating an eye-catching contrast, and features a fully sandblasted finish that further emphasises the darker metallic hues of the titanium. The shades of the movement, which vary from the brightest violet to purple, are complemented by a black rubber strap with a violet insert, reproducing the effect of a woven fabric. Water resistance is guaranteed up to a pressure of 10 atmospheres. Price: 13,400 Swiss francs.
