For the 110th anniversary of its foundation, Oris presented the limited edition Calibre 110, equipped with an in-house developed movement with a 10-day power reserve, patented non-linear power reserve indicator and small seconds. This innovative combination of complications gave birth to many subsequent calibres, up to Calibre 114, launched last year. They are the symbol of Oris as a movement maker. Since its inception, Oris has presented more than 270 self-made calibres. For the Big Crown ProPilot X Calibre 115 the watchmakers at Oris were inspired by Calibre 110 and imagined a completely skeletonised movement. Traditionally, skeletonisation allowed a watchmaker to demonstrate his talent, but this movement has even higher ambitions. Its mission is to reconnect people with objects and their functioning. The mechanism of the Big Crown ProPilot X Calibre 115 thus 'offers itself' to admiration. Nothing is concealed. The barrel at 12 o'clock is skeletonised so that even the spring is visible. As you turn the crown, you can see how the mainspring winds up, tighter and tighter, until it is fully wound and ready to provide a full 10 days of uninterrupted winding. There are no compromises, no enamelling or 'unnecessary' decorations. The skeleton bridges of the Calibre 115 are matt grey, rather than polished or engraved. One only has to look at the movement with a magnifying glass to see that the edges have not been bevelled or filed down, but left in their natural state. Nothing tarnishes the pure essence of traditional Swiss watchmaking, everything is as it should be. Inspired by the extraordinary aesthetics of the movement, the Oris designers have created a bold and dynamic case that fuses the brand's tradition of pilot's watches - which began in the early 1910s and took off with a large-crown wristwatch in 1917 - and the role of mechanical watchmaking in the future.
