Montblanc is approaching the haute horlogerie segment for the first time with the new Collection Villeret 1858. The collection comprises a series of limited edition watches: three chronographs and three timepieces using movements made by Minerva SA, a company that has belonged to the Richemont Group since October 2006. For some months now, Montblanc has been investing in a project to safeguard the experience and expertise of this movement manufacturer and under the designation of the Institut Minerva de Recherche en Haute Horlogerie has set up an Atelier Artisan, where skilled master watchmakers create limited edition models for the Maison Montblanc, under the guidance of Demetrio Cabiddu (a historic name in watchmaking, he worked with Pierre-Michel Golay on the most beautiful complication creations for the Maison Gérald Genta in the 1980s and 1990s). One example is the Grand Chronographe Autentique, a single-pusher column-wheel chronograph equipped with the manual Minerva calibre 16-29, 252 components, 55-hour power reserve and 18,000 vibrations per hour.
