Opening of the new A. Lange & Söhne

On 26 August 2015, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Prime Minister of Saxony Stanislaw Tillich were in Glashütte to inaugurate the new A. Lange & Söhne. The new building with its 5,400 square metre production area consists of two parts. The large, slightly inclined workshop windows ensure ample light for the workstations. The ultra-modern workshops provide the master watchmakers with optimal working conditions in a total absence of dust. The entrance façade has a climate control function. The machines and other equipment used for the manufacture of movement components are located in the lowered front part of the building. Several departments, where smaller components are engraved and decorated by hand, will also be housed in the new building. "The new building is a response to the growth in employment in recent years and represents an investment in the future of manufacturing," commented Wilhelm Schmid, CEO A. Lange & Söhne. "The focus," he added, "has been on the creation of a modern, energy-efficient building that will provide a cosy environment and ideal working conditions. This will help us to further improve the quality of our watches and optimise our production processes. All the while, we will strive to reduce our ecological footprint and resource consumption'. The new building is therefore an emblem of sustainable architecture and innovative energy management. The electricity required to run the pumps is entirely green, making the new Lange factory a CO2-free facility, contributing to climate change mitigation.
