Yellow, green and orange are the most visible colours underwater. In clear waters, where most recreational diving activity takes place, fluorescent green and yellow are the most visible colours at a great distance, while up close fluorescent orange is excellent. The visibility of colours under water was analysed in John A. Adolfson and Thomas E. Berghage's 1974 treatise, 'Perception and performance under water'. Following this logic, Oris has created the Aquis Date Orange, customising the 15-minute scale on the bezel with orange inserts and finishing the indices and hands with SuperLuminova in the same colour. This contrasts with the black ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel, the black dial and the steel case with gunmetal coloured PVD coating.
