Longines presents its new model in the Heritage collection: The Longines Avigation Watch Type A-7. A single-pusher column-wheel chronograph, it draws its inspiration from the aviator watches of the 1930s which had to meet strict criteria in terms of aesthetics, quality and precision in order to be worn by pilots and to bear the "Type A-7" insignia issued by the US army. The generous size and knurled crown of those models allowed for quick reading and gripping, even when wearing thick aviator gloves. The staggered black dial with its large white numerals further simplified readability, in twilight or during turbulence in flight. The dial was oriented in such a way that the watch could be worn on the inside of the wrist. In this way, the dial was on the same axis as the on-board instruments and pilots could read the indications without having to move their arm and, therefore, without ever having to leave the stick.
The Longines Avigation Watch Type A-7 mono-pusher chronograph is offered in a 49-millimetre-diameter steel case housing the L788 calibre, a column-wheel movement developed exclusively for Longines, which enables the various chronograph functions - start, stop and reset - to be governed by simply pressing the monopusher integrated in the knurled crown. Large white Arabic numerals stand out on the black dial offset by 50° to the right, directly inspired by aviation watches. The tachymeter scale and Breguet minute and hour hands complete the bold aesthetics of this timepiece with its black alligator strap. The sapphire crystal opening on the caseback allows a glimpse of the movement. Available on the market from December at a price of €3,160.
