21 July 1969: man set foot on the moon for the first time. The man, or rather the men in question were certainly no ordinary gentlemen, or at least they would not be any more so from that moment on: Neil Armstrong touched down on the lunar soil first; Buzz Aldrin followed soon after, while the third member of the Apollo XI mission, Michael Collins, remained in orbit with the spacecraft. The excitement that the conquest of the lunar soil aroused at the time is still vivid in everyone's memory.
Omega's history is inextricably linked to this momentous and almost legendary event: the Speedmaster, the only watch to have passed all of NASA's rigorous tests to select the most suitable model for astronauts on space missions, accompanied the men of the Apollo XI on that great conquest which sealed the destiny of mankind by propelling it into the space age.
Fifty-three years later, on the occasion of the anniversary of this historic event, Buzz Aldrin and Omega are re-evoking the images of that famous day, which is also celebrated with a new portrait of the astronaut wearing the Speedmaster 321 (Ref. 311.30.40.30.01.001), powered by the legendary calibre 321 which equipped all the models used on the missions to the moon.
To this day, the Speedmaster continues its honourable career, confirming its leading role in sports modelling.
